Auld Lang Syne

This simple entryway is a fond memory of Nantucket artist Marshall DuBock, who has captured the simpler days of old when nobody ever locked their doors and people obeyed no trespassing signs. Auld Lang Syne, (Times Gone By), is a poem written by Scottish poet Robert Burns; it is also the traditional New Years song ("should old acquaintances be forgotten"). This is the quintessential name for the oldest house on Nantucket. The detail of this watercolor captures the ravages of time and weather right down to the faint outlines of the iron hinges that once hung in the opposite direction.
